Meet the Horses

Ice

Skating on Thin Ice
Contact-image

Ice is a great horse with an easy going attitude and smooth collected gaits and is a wonderful addition to HF. Before coming becoming a therapy horse he was trained and shown in dressage, hunter/jumpers and western pleasure. Ice may be a Paint but you would never know it by looking at him, he’s a bay with a small star and two hind socks. His show name is Skating On Thin Ice and has lived up to it. He has also been trail ridden and even drives. Even though he is one of the tallest members of the herd he prefers to work with kids and has taught many how to ride. Thanks to Kristi Horwitz for allowing Ice to be part of Horsefeathers.

Apollo

Sir Clippity Clop
Contact-image

Apollo is one of our newer acquisition to the Horsefeathers riding program.  He came to us all the way from Michigan and has experience helping the disabled, as his past owner was blind.  He can easily accommodate the largest riders and also take care of our smallest hippotherapy riders as well. Apollo is part Belgian, part quarter horse, but all heart. For such a large sturdy horse he has a surprisingly smooth trot, like riding a couch with feet. His warm disposition and friendly greetings to anyone who comes by make him a unique member of the Horsefeathers team. Thanks to the Jiongco Family for donating him to be part of Horsefeathers.

Calvin

Paint by Numbers
Contact-image

Calvin is an adorable chestnut and white paint pony with a white face and two blue eyes. He is gentle and caring with kids, the smaller the better. Calvin was rescued by the Humane Society after he and his pasture mates were neglected; since then he has been rehabilitated and loves his slow and easy going career as a therapy pony. Calvin loves treats – carrots, apples, and mints are his favorites.

Harley

Kick Start My Heart
Contact-image

Harley is a great all around horse excelling at therapy rides as well as independent riders. Before coming to HF he was a pony horse at the race track originally, then purchased as a family horse and ridden and trained English. He is a black gelding with a white blaze and no white socks. His show name is Kickstart my Heart, something he has certainly done while working with his riders large and small. Thanks to the Gembra Family for donating him to be part of Horsefeathers.

Lucky

Happy Go Lucky
Contact-image

Lucky is an adorable little bay roan pony with a very friendly nature.  Lucky is tied with Rover to be the smallest member of Horsefeathers - the perfect size for our littlest equestrians and a favorite of our therapists.  He has plenty of pep to keep him going all day long, so every ride is just as active as the next.  Lucky was rescued by the Osterberg Family from a neglectful situation; something in his dull sad eyes told them this rough looking pony was special.  They brought him home and carefully started a good feed program to get him to a healthy weight adding daily love, kind words and lots of brushing.  These simple acts of kindness helped "Lucky" bloom inside and out, and what a pretty little pony he turned out to be! Lucky has many great qualities, despite his unfortunate past, so someone had spent time teaching him good manners and how to be a wonderful pony. He is comfortable with kids and adults and enjoys all the attention and daily love he can get. Thanks to the Osterberg Family for donating him to be part of Horsefeathers.

Poco

Poco is a sweet and curious natured horse. Prior to becoming a therapy horse for HF he was a hunter jumper show horse and won his riders countless ribbons. He is excellent for independent riders, with a wonderful disposition and smooth gaits. Poco is a dark bay with four socks and several white splotches. Thanks to the Trish for donating him to be part of Horsefeathers.

Red Rover

Rover the Brave
Contact-image

Red Rover is the smallest member of Horsefeathers. He is a sweet little chestnut pony with a friendly nature. Little Red as he is often referred to was a child’s pony at one point in his past career. He is the perfect size for our littlest equestrians and a favorite of our therapists. He has plenty of pep to keep him going all day long so every ride is just as active as the next. Thanks to Fred Carney for donating him to be part of Horsefeathers.
